Restaurants and Great Food around Santiago de Cuba

Travel by float boat to reach El Cayo Restaurant, on a small island in the center of Santiago harbor.

Approaching the restaurant, at left.

A different view, as we depart, of homes on the little island.

Back in Santiago:  The two photos below show dinner preparation at La Tropical, a paladar.  Paladares are not run by the state. They are usually located in the home of a family which has converted a portion of its house for maximum appeal to the clientele. In this instance, we were seated on the rooftop of the home. The chefs went to much effort to decorate our plates.

A rather excessive amount of food: pork, grilled fish, grilled crabs, mashed potatoes topped with fried pastry trees and a celery palm tree with olive coconuts, mixed vegetables in a pastry tart, fried sweet potatoes or maybe it was calabaza.

Preparation of Mojitos at the Melia Santiago de Cuba hotel.  Outdoor dinner at the Melia.
